Ekin-Su Reflects on Celebrity Big Brother Experience: ‘I Couldn’t Recognise Myself’

Former Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu has opened up about her time on Celebrity Big Brother, admitting she was in a vulnerable state when she joined the show. The ITV2 reality series, which was ultimately won by David Potts, saw Ekin-Su become one of the most talked-about contestants due to her remarks and interactions with fellow housemates.
Looking back, the reality star acknowledges that she was not in the right frame of mind to take part in the show. In a candid interview on Lorraine, she reflected on her behaviour, explaining that she was still in the process of healing and, as a result, often came across as overly defensive.
“For me, Celebrity Big Brother was a great show, and I don’t regret taking part,” Ekin-Su shared. “But I realise now that it was the wrong time for me. I was still healing—I wasn’t fully healed. I was very defensive, and when I look back at myself, I don’t even recognise who I was in there. I kept mentioning Love Island and trying to defend myself constantly. That’s not who I am now.”
She further admitted that she takes responsibility for some of her actions and remarks during her time in the house. “I accept accountability for things I may have said. But I forgive, I learn, and I move forward. That chapter is closed, and I have nothing but love for everyone who was there. I truly wish them all the best.”
Choosing to Set Boundaries
Despite being a key figure throughout the series, Ekin-Su made headlines again when she chose not to return for the live finale. Addressing her decision, she later explained that it was about prioritising her well-being.
“I know it might seem out of character for me to stay away, but I needed time to reflect,” she revealed. “Sometimes, in our lowest moments, we learn the most important lessons about ourselves.”
She reassured fans that her decision to miss the finale was not about disrespecting the show or her fellow contestants but about setting personal boundaries. “I hope people don’t think I was selfish for putting my own needs first. I know not everyone will understand my absence or agree with my choice, but it was the right decision for me. I wanted to avoid a situation that could have been uncomfortable, and I stand by that choice.”
Ekin-Su acknowledged that some might criticise her decision, but she remains firm in her belief that it was necessary. “I’m proud of myself for recognising what I needed in that moment, despite any backlash. Accountability is key, and when the time is right, I will share more about what has happened over these past few weeks.”
Her reflections mark a turning point as she moves forward with her career and personal life, taking lessons from her Celebrity Big Brother experience while focusing on a positive future.
