“King Curtis” Unrecognisable 13 Years After Iconic Wife Swap Appearance

The once-viral child star known as King Curtis, who famously declared “I wanna be fat and happy” on Wife Swap, looks completely transformed more than a decade after his TV debut.
Curtis Holland was just six years old when he featured on the American version of Wife Swap. His blunt honesty and feisty personality quickly made him an internet sensation. Audiences instantly latched onto his memorable one-liners, especially during heated clashes with the show’s fitness-obsessed mum, Joy.
In one unforgettable moment, he defiantly proclaimed, “Chicken nuggets is like my family,” while resisting Joy’s attempts to overhaul his diet. He also firmly stated, “I don’t wanna be skinny! I wanna be fat and happy,” capturing the hearts of viewers with his unfiltered charm.
Another standout moment from the show came when he scribbled “I am not listening to your rules” on a Post-It note, signalling his rebellion during yet another argument with Joy. But it was his emphatic love of meat — delivered with the phrase “Bacon is good for me” — that turned Curtis into a pop culture legend. The clip was later remixed into a catchy internet tune, sealing his place in meme history.
Fast forward 13 years and Curtis has left the spotlight behind. Now working as a welder, he looks almost unrecognisable from the cheeky child fans once knew. In recent images shared online, he appears bearded and outdoorsy — posing with a deer and rifle in one photo, and holding a freshly caught fish while sitting in a boat in another.
Despite his transformation, some things haven’t changed. In a 2017 interview with the New Statesman, Curtis confirmed that his love for bacon remained as strong as ever.
Though he made a brief return to television in a 2016 episode of Pawn Stars, a show centred on an American family-run pawn shop, Curtis has largely stepped away from the reality TV world.
Reflecting on his viral fame and the joy it has brought others, Curtis shared a heartwarming sentiment: “If I can go up to somebody and make their day and make them smile, I feel like I’ve done a great thing.”
While the world remembers King Curtis for his larger-than-life personality and iconic food preferences, the grown-up Curtis Holland is forging a new path — still humorous, but far from the kitchen battles of his childhood.
